It’s been a busy week and I’m delighted to have welcomed some of my Pilates clients back to the studio albeit one by one.

I managed to teach online at the same time and I really think this is the way forward for my classes – it allows your fitness training to be more flexible for example if you can’t make the studio for childcare reasons etc you have the option to do it online at a time to suit you.

However there is nothing quite like being in the studio which is airy and spacious and perfectly set up for this new normal.

Kathleen who is my 121 Pilates client said today:

‘Great to see you again. REALLY enjoyed today.
Amazingly felt the better of the gentle workout. Thank you also for the energy boost.
You’re a star. See you next week’.

High Intensity training remains online for now – do unlimited classes for £10 per week!

My live Pilates and Fitness classes continue online but I’m delighted that from next week I can have one person back in the studio for Pilates whilst I’m teaching!

This will be both strange and exciting but great to have some company once again.

The studio is ideal for fitness in the new normal – large patio doors open onto the garden so it’s almost like being outside and there is now a back entrance to avoid any congestion on entry.

Clients will now be required to bring their own equipment for classes however there will be some available for new participants to use.

I have been selling off my equipment this week to my clients who had borrowed it during the lockdown – I still have some new or second hand for sale so give me a call if you need anything.

I hope to see you soon!

My online Pilates and Fitness classes are going well here in the Stirling Studio but I’m looking forward to being able to have a few clients back in person as soon as possible.

I have been updating my knowledge with some great online workshops from leaders in the Pilates and Fitness industry and this makes for a very cost effective and efficient way of learning for me, allowing me to create lots of new content and challenges for my classes.

If you have never done Pilates before I can teach you online as a Beginner, either in a class or 121 session – I always offer Beginner to Advanced options in every session but I like to chat with you before you start to discuss any joint/postural problems etc.

My online Pilates and fitness classes are still going well on Zoom with many clients doing 2/3 per week and becoming fitter than they’ve ever been.

A mix of Pilates and aerobic training is good and I’m currently teaching 3 High Intensity sessions – one FREE Sunday morning at 10am on Facebook live with a little Pilates.

My plan is to keep the temporary timetable indefinitely as I think it will still be a couple of months before I’m allowed any clients back in the studio.

I do think the online option is here to stay but look forward to welcoming some real people back into the studio too!

Let me know if you would like a Priority Place here – I think it will be 3 or 4 people maximum to start with.

Well it’s week 7 of Lockdown - how are you doing with your fitness?

It’s really easy to get bored and lethargic but please don’t let your fitness go – you will feel so much better if you make an effort to look after yourself.

I have been teaching my Pilates and fitness classes online over the last few weeks and I love it!

It really has opened up my classes to a whole new audience but I’m so grateful for the support of many of my previous clients too.

Yesterday I changed the vibe of my Thursday morning to Pilates with some Fitness Yoga and relaxation too and I did my first mindfulness session online.

Join me next week 07933 911522

This Sunday I am teaching my FREE sample Fitness Mash up class on Facebook Live at 10am.

The lockdown continues and I am continuing to teach my Pilates and High Intensity classes online.

It’s really tempting to say ‘I’ll practice at home’ or ‘online fitness isn’t for me‘ but are you?

Your core muscles, back and shoulders are so important for your posture - if you fail to exercise them you will develop problems eventually.

Getting into a routine with your fitness and committing to a class will really help.

Zoom is really easy to download and I have finally got the music working which is especially important for the High Intensity classes.

Call me to join - beginners welcome.

I hope to see you soon!

9/4/20 My Pilates and fitness classes are still running well on Zoom with many of you seeing big improvements with your fitness with more time to exercise.

Many of you are doing 2+ classes per week so you will have achieved something so valuable during this challenging time - your health and fitness.

It’s sometimes difficult to motivate yourself during this crisis with children running around etc but it’s essential to make time for yourself.

Remember that regular exercise boosts your immune system and improves your mood.

Take care - I hope to see you online soon - try your very first class free!

My new online classes are going well and I am now in a new routine of teaching this way.

I hope by seeing me in the studio my clients kind of feel they are still with me and I have managed to make the classes as interactive and fun as possible.

This is not a ‘performance’ online – I can see everyone quite clearly and supervise your movement. You will not be bored!!

If you’re not sure about it try your first free – I would need to speak with you first and complete a quick health screen before you join a class.

I am now teaching a High Intensity half hour at 8am on Tuesdays. This really gets you motivated and energised for the day ahead.

I hope to see you soon.

I hope you are well and keeping safe during this World Health crisis.

Who could have predicted the changes and restrictions that have come into our lives so quickly these last couple of weeks?

I have found my fitness business has been turned upside down as I have taken my Pilates and Fitness classes online – something I swore I would never do.

You can now find me on Zoom which is really easy to use and you can see me and follow the classes quite well especially if you are on an IPad or Laptop.

And more importantly I can see you!

This is the reason I have always been reluctant to teach online – with Pilates it’s really important for me to be able to see and supervise you which I can do on this platform.

Check out my new timetable on the Classes page.

If you are new to Pilates give me a call – I am offering a free 121 online consultation before you start.

I hope to see you soon on Zoom!

Wow what a week! For many of us our lives have changed overnight and nowhere more than in the Fitness Industry with the Coronavirus outbreak.

My classes were mainly running last week with 3-4 people in each but this weekend I will be setting up an online fitness programme in preparation for a possible lockdown and to suit the current social distancing advice.

Classes however will continue to run next week in small groups so please let me know if you are coming or not. I would stress however please don’t come with a new cough or fever.

The new online programme will also include some mindfulness and relaxation as stress and anxiety have increased for us all.

It would be great to know if this is something that interests you – please email or call to let me know.

For more up to date developments please go to my Stirling Fitness Facebook Page

Earlier this week I was out in sunny Fuerteventura partly to recharge and relax but also to develop further my Fitness Retreat business. Fuerteventura is the perfect place to do this with endless hours of sunshine ( 5 days of rain per year!).

You will stay in the beautiful and quiet village of Lajares with spectacular views over this raw and barren landscape and the chance to get fit with some Pilates, Fitness Yoga and mindfulness sessions as well as walking and of course fun!

Classes start back here in the Stirling studio on Sunday with some gentle Pilates and Fitness Yoga at 10am.

There are 3 more weeks left of this block – the new one runs 14/4/20 – 26/6/20. Book as soon as possible to secure your place.

Pilates will boost your Immune System

With all the doom and gloom surrounding the coronavirus it’s great to find something that will scientifically boost your immune system and give you the best defence against succumbing to this.

Pilates works your transverse abdominal muscles which is one of the most important groups to get your lymph glands working effectively in fighting disease and infection.

Read more about how Joseph Pilates (teaching above) helped protect people from the ‘Spanish flu’ outbreak of 1918 here.

Classes continue to be busy this week despite the Stirling school holidays and I am particularly pleased with the success of my Aqua Fitness class at Garratts Pool on Tuesday mornings at 7.45am. Water is a great medium for exercise – it’s good for your joints, you can work aerobically burning fat and improving heart health, and of course it’s great fun.

We have been getting to grips in classes with the ground breaking pink Activation Bands (right) from Fitness Pilates creator Rachel Holmes.

Here we are using them in High Intensity Training last night – it’s a bit like exercising in mud – everything is harder but they activate the glutes and hip stabilising muscles and also reducing impact during movement.
We use them in Pilates too.

There are still spaces in most classes so give me a call if you would like to try your first class free.

7/2/20 Classes are going well here at Stirling Fitness and I can’t believe we’re into February already!

I have been pretty busy as everyone wants to get fit for the New Year but the key is really keeping your fitness going way beyond New Year in fact for life.

The best way is not to be too ambitious but form a plan of exercising twice a week to start, then building up to gradually 3 times.
Walking, swimming, a class, they all count but have a goal – maybe a 5K, a cycle or charity swim for Spring/Summer.

I think it’s best not to rely on friends to keep fit with because if they drop out so will you!
Commit to a gym or class and pay for it – there is nothing like money as a motivator for most things...

10/01/2020 My new Aqua class at Garratts pool got off to a great start on Tuesday morning with everyone feeling they had worked hard and were energised and ready for the day ahead.

Exercising early has great benefits - you get it out of the way, feel relaxed and those endorphins will leave you feeling as if you can conquer the world!

Tuesdays 7.45-8.15am
Booking essential 07933 911522

Pilates classes are busy but I still have a couple of spaces in most so let me know as soon as possible if you want to try one.

If you want to burn fat, High Intensity Training on Thursdays at 6.30pm is ideal. And we do 15 minutes of Pilates and stretching too!

New Aqua Class

Next Tuesday 7/1/20 I am starting my very first Aqua fitness class at Garratts Gym in Stirling 7.45am-8.15am.

Water is a fabulous medium for exercise as you work against the drag and inertia of the water so it’s fabulous for strength and fatburning as well as flexibility.

Happy New Year!
I hope you enjoyed the festive season and are raring to go with your fitness for 2020.

65% of us make New Year’s resolutions to exercise more but only 8% succeed!

You need motivation, commitment and routine to gain and sustain your fitness all of which I can offer here in the studio.

Classes start this Sunday 5/1/20 with Pilates/Fitness Yoga at 10am and it’s already looking busy. There are still spaces in most classes but a couple are completely full so book now to try your first class FREE 07933 911522

20/12/19 Classes came to a close yesterday for 2 weeks and resume again on 5/1/20.

You can still get a FREE class off the next 12 week block if you book before this Sunday 22/12/19.

Merry Christmas and I hope to see you in January.

12/12/2019 We have had lots of fun this last week experimenting with some new ideas from my recent Pilates updates tour in London - here we are in Bridge with a balance challenge - balancing the yoga block on your foot ensures you challenge the supporting glutes more and really stretches our hip flexors.

I will be bringing more of these new ideas into the new course of classes starting 5/1/20.

Book your place before 19/12/19 and get one FREE!

29/11/19 I’m delighted that my first ever Fitness Retreat in Fuerteventura went really well with everyone feeling fitter, more relaxed and ready to face the Christmas rush back home. papagoyo

It was great to practise teaching Aqua Fit in the pool and we did some lovely walks around the volcanic landscape and Pilates and HIIT outside.

Classes resume this Monday 2/12/19 for 3 weeks and there is still time to improve your fitness before Christmas.

Next Saturday 7/12/19 I am having a Mince Pies and Mulled Wine social in the studio 10am-12pm- there will also be the chance to do some Christmas shopping with Captain Tortue clothing, Neals Yard skincare and Emmie Grace jewellery. Let me know if you’re coming!

11/11/19 The nights are dark and winter is drawing in but how is your fitness? It’s really easy to make excuses not to keep fit at this time of year – ‘Christmas is coming, I’m tired, I’m ill, I’ll wait until the New Year etc’ but health and fitness are not seasonal – it’s really important you look after your back, joints and fitness all year round.

There is so much fun exercise you can do indoors – classes, swimming and of course the outdoors too! There is nothing better than wrapping up warm and getting out for a power walk in this beautiful country we call home.
Exercise should be fun and not a chore.

Last week I qualified to teach Aqua Fitness and will be starting classes locally in the New Year – this will not affect my normal timetable of studio classes – if you’re interested get in touch and let me know what time of day suits you best.

Exercising in water is so good for you – did you know that just standing in a swimming pool can lower your blood pressure and can help with injury rehabilitation?

Next week I am travelling out to Fuerteventura to run my first ever Fitness Retreat and I am very excited. We will be relaxing, exercising, refreshing our mental attitude and motivation and simply enjoying the dry, sunny and barren landscape.

My next Retreat will run here too 7-11 March 2020 – let me know as soon as possible if you’re interested 07933 911522

24/10/19 The new courses of Pilates and Fitness Classes have got off to a great start but I still have spaces in some. This session we will be experimenting more with the pink resistance bands which are great during movement for stabilising the hips and strengthening the legs and core. I am heading down to London in a few weeks to meet with Fitness Pilates (and pink band creator) Rachel Holmes for her annual updates workshop. It’s always great to meet up with other Pilates instructors and get some new ideas and Rachel is so inspiring and full of energy.

I am announcing the dates for my second Fitness Retreat in Fuerteventura this week. This will run 7-11 March 2020 in the beautiful village of Lajares in the north of the island. You will retreat from life and be able to focus on yourself with a structured Fitness programme – Pilates, Fitness Yoga, Aqua fit and lots of walking. You will have time to see the island and you will have time for yourself, sitting by the pool or in the quiet garden or walking down to the village shops etc. Places are limited to 7 – book now to avoid disappointment 07933 911522.

4/10/19 I’ve had a busy few weeks here at Stirling Fitness with lots of 121 Pilates sessions as people get into the swing of their fitness after Summer.

It’s often over Summer and on holiday that people assess their lives and their fitness and realise it’s now or never!

If you’re not prepared to work on or invest in your fitness be prepared for a more difficult old age – postural and back problems can play havoc with your lifestyle and your energy levels so get working on it now so you can have a pain free future. Pilates really is the way to sort out your posture and tone up and strengthen.

The current course of Fitness and Pilates classes comes to a close next week 10/10/19 and starts immediately the following week from 13/10/19. They are already looking busy so make sure you have booked your space!

I’m starting to focus on my first ever Fitness Retreat which is happening at the end of November in Fuerteventura and I’m very excited as I’m starting to put together some Aqua and Mindfulness sessions.

If you didn’t manage to book on this one I’m hoping to run a couple in 2020 so let me know if you’re interested or want to find out more.

elaine thursday

13/9/19 I can’t believe how quickly this course of classes is going – there are still 4 weeks of this block – the new block starts 14/10/19 for 9 weeks.

Classes have been busy, especially yesterday which is my Thursday morning ‘Disco Divas’ Pilates class. Well it was yesterday! (picture to left).

The friendship and camararderie in this class is extraordinary. These ladies have become firm friends because of the class, and actually have a group called ‘Pie and Lattes’ away from the studio...

We have been progressing with the MOTR (Movement on the Roller) Advanced Pilates on Mondays at 6.30pm. The MOTR is a great way of taking your Pilates to the next level and is based on the original Pilates reformer. We also use the cylinder as a Roller for massage or muscle tissue release and for standing balance. Call me to try 07933 911522

Jane Pressup

15/8/19 Classes are in full swing here in the studio with many of you returning from your holidays desperate to work on you fitness.

I have some new exercises in Pilates this session and will try and use the Pilates MOTR machine when possible and appropriate.

The circular cylinder part is an excellent roller, this works much the same as massage, getting rid of tight muscle tissue which can cause pain and muscle imbalance. It’s a pleasant pain!

There are spaces in most classes but this is already proving to be a popular session.

I’m looking forward to starting my Sunday morning Fitness Yoga/Pilates mix on Sunday 1/9/19 10am

Book NOW 07933 911522

Chris motr

30/07/19 Classes got off to a great start yesterday with some new faces and lots of regulars too. They are all either full or almost full so don’t leave it too long to book this block even if you can’t start right away.

The new MOTR time on a Monday is proving very popular – we had a great session last night with some lovely rolling or myofascial release at the end – pictured is Chris massaging her IT band - this is essential for keeping your hips and knees balanced and injury free.

I am continuing with my relaxation/mindfulness section in some classes – let me know if you want to try this. I hope to see you in classes soon!

Ally Tennis

23/7/19 Pilates and Fitness classes start next week here in the studio and I am looking forward to experimenting with some new ideas and exercises.
They are looking very busy – the MOTR (Movement on the Roller) is completely full as are a couple of others so don’t leave it too long to book in.

You can book a 121 session on the MOTR – this is a ground breaking Pilates machine based on the original Reformer which challenges your core in ways that mat exercises can’t. It is great if you have done some Pilates before and really want to push your fitness to the next level.

High Intensity training is a great way to burn fat and really get your heart and lungs working – this is on Thursdays at 6.30pm and we do a little Pilates and some stretching here too. This can really improve your performance in other sports such as cycling, running and football so come and give it a go.

This week’s newsletter features my friend, local man Ally McMurray (above) who is embarking on his remarkable Sportathon to raise £10,000 for major cancer charities. He kicks off on Saturday 3/8/19 at Stirling Tennis Club so come along and support him! You can sponsor him here

12/7/19 Classes are off at the moment for July but I am around the next couple of weeks for 121 fitness.

This is the best way to find out how to get the best out of your fitness and I will chat to you about routines, diet and have a good look at your posture and how it is possibly causing you problems. Then we can work out a personal programme and solution to counteract this.

Aqua Fuerte I spent the last week in sunny Fuerteventura, part holiday and part planning my first Fitness and Wellness Retreat in November. This is full but I am hoping to offer some dates for 2020 too so let me know if you are interested.

I decided when I was there to enrol on my Aqua Fitness course here in the UK – the pool at the retreat is perfect for some water exercise – relaxing and cool - looking out onto the beautiful barren landscape of Fuerteventura. Water is a great medium for exercise – it offers resistance for strength training, is fun and there is no impact or stress on your joints. It is also a good aerobic workout and water induces relaxation and well-being. Maybe I will bring this to Stirling too!

There are still spaces in most classes for the next block but a couple are full so book NOW if you plan to do any 07933 911522

28/6/19 Pilates and Fitness classes came to a close yesterday with a very hot High Intensity Training class last night! For the first time ever I was asked if my class would be on because of the heat! For me weather is never an excuse not to exercise. The studio was cool out of the sun – I don’t think I’ll be getting the air conditioning just yet...

It’s really easy to get distracted with your fitness at this time of year – holidays, school activities and children out of routine, and that general feeling of winding down for most of us. But it’s really important to keep it going – even once a week.

The weather is generally better at this time of year, the nights are light and if it’s hot swim! There is no excuse. Swimming is the best all round exercise you can do – your weight is supported so there is no stress on your joints and you’re getting both the cardiovascular/aerobic challenge and flexibility.

I’m looking forward to the break from classes myself – I’m heading out to Fuerteventura next week to recharge my batteries. I’ll be doing lots of running and swimming and doing a recce for my first Fitness Retreat out there in November.

Read my latest newsletter here

Remember I am around for 1-2-1 Pilates and Personal Training most weeks in July – this is a great chance for me to look at your posture properly and the way you are moving. You will also get faster results with Personal Training.

11/6/19 I hope you are keeping fit this Summer – the weather hasn’t been great in Scotland recently but there are lots of ways you can keep fit indoors too!
Summer always threatens to hijack fitness routines with holidays looming but don’t let this get in the way of your health. If you’re on holiday walking is good and if you’re in a hot country there’s nothing better than an invigorating dip in the pool or sea.

The evening classes are a bit quieter right now so if you have missed a class let me know if you would like to fit in an extra before the end of the block on 27/6/19. There are still 2 weeks left of classes.

The recent MOTR course has come to an end but this is proving very popular so next term I will be running this for the full block at the slightly later time of 6.30pm.
This will replace the current 7pm Pilates class which has been poorly attended this term.

MOTR offers an exceptional challenge to your core fitness, balance and strength – let me know if you want to try it – places limited.

Book your next block of classes before 28/6/19 and get one FREE!

23/5/19 Classes continue to be very busy which is great but I still have some spaces in most classes.

As an incentive to get fit I’m running a Summer Bootcamp offer which starts next week – you can choose 3 classes for 5 weeks and do a mix of Fatburning/Aerobic/ High Intensity and of course Pilates and Fitness Yoga. These are all essential for a balanced body and this works out at £5 per class so is a great offer – limited spaces book now £75.

I’m looking forward to some more Pilates training next month this time with the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute in Glasgow.

12/5/19 Pilates classes are very full this session but there are still a couple of spaces left if you want to start.

Tomorrow my new MOTR (Movement on the Roller) class starts for 5 weeks. The MOTR offers a completely different way of working with Pilates – still very functional but there is more emphasis on balance and strength. I can’t wait to use this as a roller for massage or myofascial release – it’s essential for most of us to massage the muscle tissue – it prevents injury, stiffness and improves posture.

I released details of my first Fitness Retreat in Fuerteventura this week and I’m delighted to say it’s fully booked! Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands is the perfect place to refresh, recharge and regain focus and of course have a little fun!

The emphasis will be on ‘time for you’ and I will be running Pilates, Fitness Yoga, Aqua Fitness sessions as well as some walks around the unique landscape. Mindfulness, motivation and meditation will also be key as well as a little pampering and style.

Let me know if you’re interested in any dates for the future.

I’ve been running some Mindfulness and Meditation in some of my morning Pilates sessions – let me know if you would like to try this great way to recharge and relax your mind.

Yesterday I attended my first Mindfulness course with expert Susie Hooper.

26/4/19 The new session of Pilates and Fitness classes is going well with my morning classes currently completely full!
I have space in the Sunday Fitness Yoga and Pilates at 10am and most of the evening classes.

It was great to have the hot sunny weather recently – this has made training for the Glasgow Kiltwalk this Sunday very easy – I’m pictured above with my team mate and friend Abidah Hussain. We are walking this Sunday with some others to raise funds for Scottish Families affected by Drug and Alcohol abuse – feel free to sponsor us

We have been practising some Mindfulness and Meditation in some classes recently – let me know if this is something you would like to try - it is highly beneficial and energising.
This coincides with me announcing my first ever fitness and well-being retreat which I am running in Fuerteventura later this year – let me know if you would be interested.

The MOTR (Movement on the Roller) class starts again on Monday 13/5/19. This is a great opportunity to take your Pilates to a new level and challenge some of those deep stabilising muscles in a more precise way.

6/4/19 I’m looking forward to starting the new block of Pilates and Fitness classes this week – they are looking busy so if you’re planning to book do it soon!
The theme this month is on relaxation and how you must make time to do this to protect your future health.
Read my latest newsletter.

It’s really important if you are keeping fit to move it forward and I offer many options in my classes to do this.
Pilates client Susan Henderson (pictured above) is using the Pilates soft ball above in Side Plank to add more challenge to her core strength.

One other option if you have done Pilates before is to try the MOTR or Movement on the Roller machine.
This is based on the original Pilates Reformer and I stock them here in the studio.
The new course starts on Monday 13/5/19 for 5 weeks – give me a call if you want to try it.

25/3/19 Classes come to a close this week for a week but there is a ‘catch up’ class next Wednesday 3/4/19 at 7pm if you want to do it.
They resume on Sunday 7/4/19 for 12 weeks excluding the Easter weekend. We’ve had a busy session with a couple of classes completely full so it’s best to book your place as soon as possible.

I’ll be using my week to catch up on some Pilates education from recent courses and I’ll be working with my 121 Pilates clients as normal. 121 fitness is a great way to get quick and precise results with your fitness and posture and get a really bespoke session. I can be very flexible with times. I’ll do a full postural assessment before we begin so we can look at what is possibly causing your pain or stiffness and sort it out.

I do get a lot of requests for running and aerobic training at this time of year and we can do this outside or in the comfort of the studio.

Give me a call to discuss 07933 911522.

11/3/19 Classes are starting to get busier as glimpses of better weather and some sunshine appear and sporting events such as the Stirling and Alloa half marathons loom nearer...
I myself have been struggling this year to get out running as frequently as I like and on the whole the weather has not inspired me!
But with 7 weeks to go until the Stirling running weekend the pressure is on!

I am lucky that my job is physical so the Pilates and High Intensity classes really help with my strength and flexibility and to stay injury free.
Often at this time of year I get lots of 121 bookings for running and cardio fitness too as Summer gets nearer and most of us want to look slimmer and fitter.

This block of classes finishes 28/3/19 and restarts the following week so give me a call if you want to try a class before the end of the course 07933 911522.

Whoosh what a busy start to the year! It’s been great to see many new exercisers in classes as well as some old faces returning to Pilates.
I think Pilates is an essential part of every fitness routine – you need to asses those postural imbalances and realign them before they cause you problems.
I will look at your posture before you start your class and we can see what you need to work on to improve your strength and flexibility.

We’ve had fun in classes this week with much laughter as class members get to know each other – pictured above is Zoe Littlehill who comes to Pilates and High Intensity classes twice a week.

There are still spaces in some classes so book now for the next 6 weeks.

11/01/2019 Classes got off to a great start this week with many full and all busy. I love January as everyone seems to be making a focused effort with their fitness and quite rightly so.

Basically if you don’t look after your health and fitness you are more likely to:

  • Develop Diabetes
  • Look older
  • Get back pain
  • Need joint replacements
  • Develop Heart Disease
  • Put on weight
  • Sleep less
  • Develop Anxiety and Mental Health problems
  • Have a more severe Menopause

And the message?

If you’re not exercising what is your excuse? If it’s money you have your priorities wrong and it doesn’t cost anything to go for a walk/run.

I can help you get fit even if you have done no exercise for years.

I have a small, cosy studio and only teach small groups or 121 fitness so you can get results whether it’s with your posture, your weight or joint pain.

Give me a call 07933 911522

20/12/18 Classes come to a close today for 2 weeks and I’m looking forward to the break and planning the next session for 2019.

I have enjoyed working recently with some 121 Pilates clients with more serious postural problems and seeing them progress to moving more easily and eventually becoming pain free. Movement really is key to a healthier future but it’s getting the correct movement for you. 121 teaching allows me to look closely at your posture and prescribe the right exercises for you.

I’m looking forward to recharging my batteries over Xmas and will be heading out to Fuerteventura at New Year to focus on some of my educational resources so I can deliver the best classes and information to you in 2019. And of course to get some sunshine and get some beach runs in and practice my Pilates by the sea!

I hope to see you in 2019.

Have a great Christmas.

Ali and the spiky ball

5/12/18 The weeks are whizzing by until Christmas but there is still time to make difference with your fitness. It generally takes about 2 weeks to lose or improve fitness so don’t let it go for one day of the year – it’s really not worth it.

Most classes have remained busy over the last few weeks but a couple of the evening ones were quiet when the weather was bad...

Are you making excuses not to keep fit? Remember the studio is warm and cosy and we usually have great fun in the classes!

We have been experimenting with the spiky massage balls recently which are great for the feet and posture – the latest research shows that if you look after your feet you can avoid bunions and painful Plantar Fasciitis – this is the muscle tissue that can become irritated by overuse or poor shoes – give me a call if you want to find out more.

The last classes are on Thursday 20/12/18 – book for January before 21/12/18 and get one free.

Pauline and her Son

This course of fitness and Pilates classes is going well – there is still space in most classes.

Remember it’s not too late to tone up and get fit before Christmas – there are still more than 6 weeks to go so you could definitely lose a few inches and feel great so long as you’re committed to your cause!

If you are fit don’t let it go just for one day of the year. It’s really not worth it – you need to value your health far more than that...

Last weekend I was down in London training with Fitness Pilates founder Rachel Holmes and postural expert Kelly Reed-Banks (pictured above).

There were 100 Pilates teachers from all over the UK swapping ideas and networking – it was great.

I picked up some fabulous ideas for looking after your feet and posture and we did a session on Men’s Pilates which is one of my favourite and busiest classes.

You’ll see these ideas filtering into classes as we speak!

24/10/18 Pilates and fitness classes got off to a great start this week with a couple bursting at the seams...Pauline and her Son

Remember you have to pre-book your place and unfortunately can’t just turn up unexpectedly – this isn’t fair on those who have committed to the class – this is small group fitness after all!

We’ve been working with the MOTR (Movement on the Roller) Pilates machine and Mondays at 5.45pm gives you the chance to really explore this ground breaking piece of kit in a quiet environment.

Pictured above is client Paulene Bonello with her son Jacob challenging their strength and balance.

Next weekend I head down to London to reconnect with Fitness Pilates creator Rachel Holmes and Pilates expert Kelly Reed-Banks. We will be looking at the latest physiological research and how we can incorporate this into classes. Some special attention will be give to seniors and my favourite Men on Mats!

The male posture works very differently to female so it is important with strength and flexibility training to adapt exercises accordingly.

There are still spaces in most classes so give me a call to try your first class free 07933 911522

5/10/18 Classes come to a close next Thurday and start again on Monday 22/10/18for 9 weeks.

We’ve had a good session – experimenting with the MOTR Pilates machines and trying out my new ideas and exercises from The Pilates conference in Edinburgh.

I’m looking forward to the next course which takes us until Christmas (!). Don’t let your fitness slide just because it’s dark and cold outside – you’ll just have more to do in the New Year.

It’s not good to yo-yo your fitness – the studio is warm, cosy and friendly and there is plenty of free parking.

Michael King

23/9/18 Yesterday I attended The Pilates Gathering in Edinburgh where I was privileged to meet and reconnect with some of the top presenters in the world.

I am pictured here with Michael King who trained in Joseph Pilates’ original studio in New York and who is the founder of the Pilates Institute UK.

Michael’s workshop was ballet/dance based and I got some fresh and fabulous ideas for my classes.

I also reconnected with Maximilian Stohr and Cinzia Galletto who are the Balanced Body master trainers for the Pilates MOTR machine. They taught a mat based master class, informed us of latest research and gave us lots of new material and sequences for our classes.

I also took part in a Pelvic Floor workshop with one of Scotland’s leading specialists Bill Taylor who is also Physiotherapist to the Scottish Ballet.

13/9/18 The nights are drawing in and Autumn has arrived but don’t let your fitness slide!

I have seen a massive shortfall in evening attendance this week even although most classes are full.

This happens every year in the week the weather changes but hopefully you will all come back next week and not let your fitness go during Winter...

I’m starting my new 4 week MOTR class next Monday at 5.45pm. This gives you a chance to exercise earlier in the evening but also to work with this marvellous piece of functional fitness equipment.

It’s not complicated – full training provided.

MOTR Klara etc.

2/9/18 Pilates classes are very busy here in the studio and I have never seen such an explosion of people wanting to get fit for a long time.

I think clients really value my close tuition here at Stirling Fitness – this is not mass market stuff but an education on how to have great posture and be pain free in a friendly boutique environment.

I am looking at setting up another Monday class to accommodate numbers and will probably include the MOTR pilates machine (see above) in this new class, possibly at 5.45pm. Let me know if you are interested.

The Circuits/High Intensity class is a great complement to Pilates as we all need some cardiovascular fat burning exercise but this is NOT hard core and you can do the whole class low impact if you like.

Let me know if you would like a 121 session and postural assessment – it can be really useful to target your problem areas so you know what to focus on in classes.

I think quality is important when you’re looking for a Pilates class – your instructor should be screening you first for any joint and health problems and groups should be no greater than 10.

The instructor should have a good look at your posture before any exercises are given.

On Friday I met with Pilates world expert Brittany Taylor from the US who took us through the original mat exercises with her own personal twist.

This was very refreshing and it was lovely to meet with other instructors and get some new ideas.

On Tuesday I am speaking about Pilates at local business networking group Breakfast Buzz in Stirling and I will be taking one of the new ground breaking MOTR machines to demonstrate how it works.

There is still space in some Pilates classes but they are filling up so book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

July has been a great month for 121 training – lovely weather and the studio quiet with the absence of mainstream classes.

I love working with beginners or people whose fitness has lapsed – it’s never too late to get back on the treadmill of fitness – the key is to start off gently and keep it consistent.

I can take your measurements if you’re looking to lose weight – this is usually Power Walking or jogging or we can do some High Intensity if it’s appropriate.

I’m looking forward to teaching my Pilates classes once again. Pilates really is your postural insurance policy – you can’t go wrong.

You will be screened and I will chat with you about any joint or health concerns before your first class.

July is coming to a close and I’m anticipating the start of my new course of Pilates and fitness classes next week.

August/September is usually a great time to start exercising as holidays are over and the weather is still good.

I always get a feeling of a new start here – a bit like starting the new school year when I was younger...

I’ve decided to focus on working with smaller groups of clients this term – with Pilates it’s impossible to truly work with someone’s posture if you have more than 10 in a class – that’s why the studio is perfect for this.

Pilates is great for improving your movement and preventing those debilitating problems like back ache as we age.

Beginners are welcome – indeed I have been educating my 87 year old father recently about the benefits of Pilates and giving him a few exercises!

I’ll be continuing to work with the MOTR Pilates machine this session in the more advanced classes – the 4 week MOTR course starts Saturday 25/8/18 for 4 weeks.

me MOTR bridge

Classes are currently off for July but will be back 6/8/18 for 10 weeks.

I am around for Personal Training and 1-2-1 Pilates for the next few weeks whilst the studio is quiet – this is an ideal time to get your posture assessed and really find out where those aches and pains are coming from.

We can just do Pilates or if it’s fat burning you want I can create a bespoke programme and we can either work outside, or in the comfort of the studio which is nice and cool in this hot weather.

The timetable next session is predominantly Pilates based but look out for the High Intensity Fat burning class on Thursdays at 7pm and the new MOTR class on Saturday morning at 9am.

The classes are tailored to suit all abilities including beginners and the small studio gives it a really personal feel.

Please call me for more information.

3/6/18   The weather has been fantastic here in Stirling recently but this has meant especially the early evening classes have been quieter.

I'm assuming you have all been outside exercising in the sunshine!

There are still 4 weeks of Pilates and classes left so it's not too late to get fit for Summer.

We have been experimenting in some classes with the MOTR Pilates machine which has brought a new energy and challenge into classes.

We will be using this regularly in Circuits/HIIT on Thursdays at 7pm as they can be used for aerobic, balance and core/strength work.

Come and try it the studio is cool in Summer!

21/5/18  We had a well attended MOTR Pilates workshop here on Saturday and spent 2 hours experimenting with this new groundbreaking strength and resistance machine.

We used it for standing balance, as an upper and lower body strengthener, for some of the original 34 Mat Pilates exercises and as a foam roller for myofacial release.

The new course starts on Saturday 2/6/18 for 4 weeks - book NOW spaces limited 07933 911522 £40

13/5/18 We've had a busy couple of weeks here in the studio with classes pretty full and people thinking about getting fit for Summer.

I have been trying out the new MOTR (Movement on the Roller) Pilates machines in some classes - they are fantastic for core strength and posture and really do offer a new groundbreaking way of working in Pilates classes.

I am running a workshop here in the Stirling studio next Saturday 19/5/18 9.30-11.30am - this will leave you time to get home before the Royal wedding!

We won't be exercising for the whole 2 hours - the MOTR is an educational piece of equipment so we need plenty of time to try out the different positions.

They can also be used aerobically so bring your trainers!

30/4/18 Yesterday I took part in the Stirling Scottish Half Marathon. I had originally planned to run the Marathon for the second time but unfortunately had to pull out due to an ankle imjury.

I really enjoyed it and was doing quite well until 6 miles then had to slow down as I felt it aching. I still finished with a time of 2 hours 17 minutes so not too bad!

It was great to see so many people keeping fit and raising money for their chosen charities.

The organisation by Great Run was as usual excellent and the people of Stirling came out en masse to support the finish.

If you would like to train for a Marathon or learn to run let me know - I have many years experience and you can book your own private session.

28/4/18  This week I was down in London at the Balanced Body Pilates on Tour conference. I met many Pilates instructors and experts from around the world and was lucky enough to spend 2 days training on the MOTR Pilates machine with Maximillian Stohr and Cinzia Calista Galletto from Italy.

MOTR stands for 'Movement on the Roller' - this is a versatile piece of equipment which can be used to enhance the original Joseph Pilates mat exercises making them sometimes more challenging and more precise.

I will be running a Master class very soon - keep a lookout on Facebook and Twitter for more information.

23/4/18  Classes have got off to a great start this session with many people wanting to get fit for Summer.

Many of my Pilates classes are full but I stil have space in some and there is room in both Yoga and High Intensity Fatburning on Thursdays at 7pm.

This week I am heading down to London to train with US Pilates leaders Balanced Body on their Pilates MOTR machines.

I have these in my office ready to go and will be introducing them into some classes soon.

I'm looking forward to running in the Stirling Half Marathon next week - unfortunately I had to drop out of the marathon this year with an ankle injury.

Hope to see some of you there!

9/4/18  How is your fitness? We all have setbacks in our fitness and in our lives but you just have to keep jumping back on that treadmill and you'll retain a level of fitness and well-being that will sustain you well through life's challenges.

I think the mistake most people make with their fitness is that they aim too high and get disappointed when they can't maintain their programme as inevitably life gets in the way.

You have to be flexible and make time to exercise - it really is only 30 minutes twice a week that makes a huge difference to your health and weight control.

One hour per week...

I'm lucky enough to be working out in Fuerteventura this week where the sun always shines and the sea is always blue...

This is a huge motivator for my fitness and I'm recovering gradually from an ankle injury that was caused by wearing the wrong shoes for my Stirling Marathon training.

I've dropped to the half marathon instead and I'm looking forward to it.

If you need help with your running or fitness or you want to learn how to run give me a call - you can book a 121 for your personal bespoke programme.

2/4/18  Happy Easter! I hope you had a good one although the weather left a lot to be desired...

I'm teaching 3 Pilates classes this week (see above) then classes are off next week and the new block starts on Sunday 15/4/18 for 11 weeks.

There are still spaces in most classes but this is traditionally a busy term with the lighter nights and Summer holidays approaching, so book as soon as you can.

I am looking forward to heading down to London in a couple of weeks to complete my MOTR Pilates training with US Pilates experts Balanced Body.

The MOTR is a fantastic piece of equipment which I will be introducing in May - look out of the Masterclass coming soon!

18/3/18  Gosh I can't believe we're nearly at the end of March and we're still gettting Amber weather warnings!

I think the weather has had a big impact on people's fitness and motivation this year but you can't let your health be at the peril of unpredicatable weather!

It is just an excuse - there's loads of things you can do to keep fit indoor and out.

It has had an impact on my Stirling Marathon training though - I found myself shirking a run this week because of the freezing rain but mad up for it in High Intensity training on Thursday evening.

This is a great way to keep aerobically fit indoors and High Intensity training has been proven to be the best exercise for burning fat. Thursdays 7pm.

There are 2 more weeks left of mainstream classes before Easter - remember I am not teaching this Tuesday evening 20/3/18 and have moved these classes to 3/4/18.

The new block of Pilates starts 16/4/18 for 11 weeks - BOOK NOW spaces limited.

27/2/18  Well we've had Amber weather warnings but the studio is cosy! Don't allow the weather to scupper your ftiness plans this week! If you live in Stirling you can walk here...

This is Jamie our Yoga teacher in action in the studio last night. The evening class is great for stretching yet you can make it very challenging from a strength point of view if you want to.

Try it Mondays 8.15pm or Wednesdays 10am.

23/2/18  It's good to be back teaching classes after the week's break and I was delighted on Sunday to meet and train with global Pilates Instructor Felicitas Carman from Italy. Felicitas trained with Lolita San Miguel who at the age of 82 was actually trained by the original Joseph Pilates!

Felicitas was warm, engaging and above all very knowledgable and she had some fantastic ideas for working the core and posture with the green soft Pilates balls.

I think her teachings have been felt in classes this week with lots of you telling me you felt the exercises were really effective and felt 'tightened' and stronger in the core muscles especially.

There are still spaces in most classes including Jamie's Yoga which in on Mondays 8.15pm and Wednesdays 10am.

31/1/18 Woosh I can't believe it's the end of January already! How are your health and fitness resolutions going? Are you on the road to your target weight/fitness level or did you fall off the wagon with the snow in January?

This is really common as often people start off too keenly with their fitness goals and either get injured or bored.

The good news is there is still time so please give me a call if you would like to dicuss how to reach your goals.

Jamie the new Yoga teacher has settled in well this termm and I have to say I'm loving her Monday evening class. I feel it really compliments my Stirling Marathon training with some fantastic stretching and some Mindfulness and Meditation at the end.

There are still a couple of spaces in this and my Wednesday moring class at 10am.

I have taken delivery of my new Pilates MOTR mechines (see below) but have decided to wait until I have done a 2 day course in London with US creators Balanced Body in April.

The MOTR machine is fantastic for really targetting specific muscles and stretches and is modelled on the Pilates Reformer which is so non-transportable.

Call me for more information 07933 911522.

Just a reminder that all classes are off for the Stirling School Holidays 11-18 February except Yoga on Wednesday 14/2 at 10am.

14/1/18  We've had a great busy week back in classes here at Stirling Fitness with lots of exciting things happening to motivate you.

On Thursday I took delivery of my new Pilates equipment - the MOTR machine - which is not unlike the original Pilates Reformer in it's design. It was designed and manufactured by leading company Balanced Body in the US, and I am travelling down to London in April to meet up with their master trainers.

There will be a Trial class coming soon  - booking essential.

Jamie got off to a great start with her Yoga classes on Monday - there are still a few spaces at 8.15pm or on Wednesdays at 10am - both classes are a mix of Hatha and functional Yoga and include a fabulous relaxation or Mindfulness session at the end.

I also have  a few spaces in High Intensity Fatburning on a Thursday evening at 7pm - book now 07933 911522

4/1/18  Happy New Year! I hope you had a good one and are managing to settle back into your routine.

Did you make any New Year Resolutions? The most popular ones in Scotland are to do with fitness and weight loss but unfortunately most of you have given up on these by the end of February...

This makes me really sad as the real benefits of being fit for life - energy, weight loss, better sleep, better skin, more flexibility etc - are not really being enjoyed.

You must commit to get fit for life or there is no point - I can help you with this.

If you are not prepared to invest in your health and longevity why?

30/12/17 I hope you had a nice festive season and haven't indulged too much! It's really hard not to at this time of year - I found it too much to resist my family's traditional cake, or carb baking as I call it, but the good news is I have managed to keep up my running even though I'm not teaching my classes.

I think having a goal is vital to keep going with your fitness - next year I am running the Stirling Scottish Marathon for a second time and hope to beat my time by roughly half an hour...

It's fantastic that The Great Run Company have decided to run a Half Marathon alongside this - if you need some help and advice on how to stay injury free and keep motivated please contact me.

Next week I am taking delivery of my new Pilates MOTR machines (see above). These offer a fabulous option to strengthening your core muscles and more, and I will be offering a Master Class in January - date to be confirmed - let me know asap if you would like a space.

The Pilates and Yoga classes are filling up but I have a special offer here -

Crash Fitness Course - 5 weeks (8/1/18-8/2/18) - 3 classes per week - choose from the following classes:

Pilates - Monday 7pm, Tuesday 10.30am, 8.15pm

Yoga   - Wednesday 10am

Unite Pilates/Yoga - Sunday 10am

High Intensity/Fatburning  - Thursday 7pm

If you're looking for a functional aspect to your fitness this offers a great all round programme - it is essential you include the High Intensity class on Thursday evenings if you want to lose weight.

£75 (£5 per class) limited spaces (10 per class)

Amber Power bag

18/12/17  Pilates and fitness classes come to a close this week after a very busy and successful year. The final class is on Christmas Eve at 10am - this is a relaxing yet challenging mix of Pilates and Fitness Yoga and will get you away from the crowds and the madness and mayhem of Christmas!

Remember Pilates here at Stirling Fitness is very functional and fast moving - we don't do any of the slow deep breathing and the exercises are updated each year with the latest physiological research.

Above is long term class member Amber Armstrong doing the Pilates Seated Roll Down with a 10kg Power Bag. This increases the challenge to the back, arms and core muscles.

We use these Power Bags in Circuits or High Intensity on Thursdays at 7pm. You can try your first class free but if you book a class before Friday 21/12/17 you get one free off the next block.

Hope to see you next year!

me dum dec 217

3/12/17  Busy busy times here at Stirling Fitness so yesterday I decided to run Dumyat at the crack of dawn before another hectic day. I find running for me is one of the best ways to relieve stress. I find it is a kind of meditation where problems seem to work themselves out and I come up with some great ideas for both of my businesses. Most people can run and it's a great way to see the beautiful countryside we live in here in Stirling. If you need some help to get started give me a call.

There are 3 weeks left of Pilates and fitness classes - the last one is Thursday 21/12/17 at 10.30am.

I am already taking bookings for the January courses and if you book before this date you get one FREE.

There are some new classes in the New Year - Yoga with Jamie on Mondays and Wednesdays and look out for the MOTR my new piece of Pilates equipment!

22/11/17 This week it's all been about Yoga in the studio. The usual classes are running too but this is the first time I've invited another teacher to teach my clients.

Jamie is a fantastic teacher and so far has taught 2 Hatha style classes which she calls 'Happy Yoga'. We did a lot of stretching and reaxation and finished off with some Mindfulness at the end.

Tonight we have 'Power Yoga' or Yoga to rock music at 8.15pm.

I am hoping to run a block of these classes in January so look out for booking information coming soon.

19/11/17  I'm having a great course of classes this session with lots of interesting changes here at Stirling Fitness.

I've decided to grow my business and offer more choice to members by having another teacher trial some classes in the studio.

This week Jamie Dunleavey (above) joins us. The 'Yoga Drummer' as she is known is going to teach 3 classes this week - 2 Hatha or more gentle Yoga, and one Power Yoga on Wednesday evening which is very like Ashtanga Yoga.

I still have space in this one - call now to book!

Also I will be introducing some new Pilates equipment in 2018 - the MOTR is a tool based on the original teachings of Joseph Pilates. He used hospital beds and springs to get his 'patients' to really stretch out and realign their posture.

This will be a dedicated class and I hope to trial it before Christmas so let me know if you're interested.

The exercises will be more advanced than current classes and these will definitely suit male posture too.

10/11/17 I am very excited that we are running 3 Yoga classes in the studio the week after next and am delighted to introduce Jamie Dunleavey (above) who will bring something new to Stirling Fitness.

Jamie will be teaching2 Hatha Yoga classes, in which she will focus on Mindfulness and poitive mental health and one Power Yoga class which is more like Ashtanga Yoga.

Read about it here - prebooking is essential 07933 911522

5/11/17 This is class member Sophia doing the Pilates Side Bend. This is an excellent exercise for your core and shoulder strength, the two main areas of stability.

There is still time to tone up and get fit for Christmas - give me a call and you can try your first class free.

29/10/17  Long time no blog! Classes are going really well as we head into the Winter season with many clients realising the benefits of keeping fit all year round.

I'm feeling the need to inject some new energy and ideas into classes and tomorrow I am going to try out a new piece of portable Pilates equipment which could add a whole new dimension to your session.

Remember 121 training is a great way to get to grips with the basics of Pilates as well as getting your own postural assessment.

If it's fat buring you are looking for we have High Intensity Circuit training on Thursdays at 7pm - currently I am offering this half price if you are booked onto a Pilates course 07933 911522.

6/8/17  Pilates and Fitness classes started last week and I still have space in most. Small group training really is the way to go with your fitness as you get close supervision with the fun of a class situation.

I really think that everyone should do Pilates - you can't go wrong with realigning your posture and stretching and strengthening your muscles - especially the core area which usually takes the brunt of bad posture.

Call NOW to try your first class FREE 07933 911522

I also have space in High Intensity Circuits on Thursdays at 7pm - this is great for fatburning and improving power and strength.

  me Dumyat Summer

22/7/17  I'm having a very active July so far and although the classes are off for another week I'm very busy with 121 fitness clients wanting to improve their core strength and posture.

I've also had some requests for running sessions which I'm delighted about - running really is my first love with fitness and after completing my first marathon this year I feel pretty well equipped to offer advice.

I also feel that running can act as a kind of meditation - it's often where I get my best ideas, sort problems out in my head and I think the general flow of the movement and the endorphins secreted add to this feel good factor.

You'll also find this flow in Pilates classes and especially the Sunday morning Freestyle Fitness Yoga/Pilates class where we do a lot of balance and felxibility work - this course runs for 6 weeks from 26/8/17.

The Pilates and High Intensity classes start back on Tuesday August 1 for 10 weeks and some are almost full so please book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

Look out for my latest newsletter coming out this week!

8/7/17  Classes have been off for a week now but I've been very busy teaching some 121 Pilates sessions and also Personal Training/Fatburning.

Summer is a great time to start your fitness programme - the nights are lighter and the weather is usually (!) better making it easier to exercise outside.

I still however come across so many people making excuses not to exercise - here are some classics:

  • I've just been too busy at work
  • The kids haven't been well
  • My husband isn't well
  • I don't get any time
  • I went out at the weekend
  • We've had people staying
  • I was on holiday
Excuses excuses excuses!! And that's all they are. This is your Health and Fitness we're talking about - your life, your longevity, your quality of life - a priceless commodity that can't be bought only preserved!
So just do it - make time - 20 minutes twice a week - you will feel great, have more energy, look younger and have more resilience.
Apart from preventing joint and health problems.
If you can't do it yourself give me a call and I will motivate you 07933 911522

I can assess your posture and we can work out a personal plan to achieve your goals.

Pictured above are Amber, Donna and Susan from my Monday morning Pilates class. They have all been coming for a number of years and have perfected the perfect Side Plank! They find this class fits in with the school nursery as it's early at 10am and they can get some valuable 'me' time after a busy weekend!

19/6/17  I hope you're enjoying this good weather and are managing to keep fit despite the heat. I was down at my folks in Newcastle at the weekend and couldn't resist doing some Pilates stretching after my early morning run.

It's really important to stretch after running or indeed any exercise and we cover most functional stretches in Pilates classes.

This helps to prevent injury and stiffness and can also be quite relaxing.

For more details on Pilates classes or general stretching give me a call 07933 911522

6/6/17  We're doing really well here in Pilates this session with classes continuing to be popular despite the holiday season starting.

The Plank (above) remains one of the most effective exercises for building core strength and encouraging great posture - you can do this kneeling and all exercises can be adapted for beginner/advanced clients.

There are still 4 weeks left of the current course of classes so feel to try one - just give me a call first.

I've recovered from the Stirling Marathon 2 weeks ago and was delighted to say my 'real time' on my Garmin was 4 hours 58 minutes. I am delighted and quite unique that I had no aches/injuries at all and put this down to Pilates and some great stretching. I am thinking about running a beginner Marathon group for teh Stirling Scottish Marathon 2018 so let me know if you ate interested.

The classes are off during July but I will be around a bit for 121 sessions be it Pilates or running/fatburning.

In August I am running my Crash Fitness Course for 3 weeks where you have to commit to 3 sessions per week for 3 weeks - great value.

22/5/17  I was delighted to complete my first Marathon in Stirling yesterday and although I had to walk a couple of short stretches towards the end I managed to 'sprint' into the finish smiling!

I have raised almost £1000 for the Scottish Association for Mental Health and since I only decided to run for the charity last week that was a huge boost when the going got tough near the end.

After some deep stretching last night I am feeling pretty good today and seem to be injury free which I'm delighted about.

If you would like some help reaching your fitness goals give me a shout - I offer Personal Training and Pilates - which I am sure helped massively in injury prevention during my training.

There are still spaces in some classes - please note my Tuesday eveing classes aren't running this week.

marathon completion

13/5/17  It's been a while since I posted on here - I've been so busy teaching classes, training for the Stirling Marathon which is next Sunday 21/5/17 (!!!) and working with a whole lot of new 121 fitness and Pilates clients.

Summer is often the time when most people come out of the closet and admit they're not as fit as they would like to be. Usually it's weight loss and general fitness they are after but often it is a back or postural problem which has forced them to seek out Pilates.

Pilates helps to realign the imbalances in our posture that can cause us serious hip, back and knee problems and this is a mix of stretching and strengthening the correct muscles to do this.

I completed my last significant run before the marathon next Sunday and decided just today to run for the Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH).

If you would like to sponsor me the link is on the Stirling Fitness Facebook Page. Thank you.

22/4/17  Classes started back this week but I still have a few spaces in most. The Tuesday evening class at 8.15pm is quieter so I am offering 2 half price spaces which is excellent value at £4 per class. Call quickly to book your space.

The Unite Fitness Yoga/Pilates class starts tomorrow for 8 weeks - this is a fabulous start to a Sunday with a relaxing vibe and some great stretching.

I have found this class invaluable during my Stirling Marathon training.

We do use hand weights at times in Pilates (see above). This is a great way to add challenge to the core as well as working on the shoulders which are so important for general posture and prevention of back problems.

This exercise is known as 'Starfish' and the great thing about it is that your back is supported as you are lifting the weights.

Lisa Lynne

15/4/17  I'm looking forward to getting back to classes next week and am spending this weekend making my final plans for the new courses of Pilates and High Intensity classes.

I had such a busy term last time and attended some really worthwhile courses - only now have I had time to consolidate this information. It's great learning the latest research on some of the most common problems that can affect our ability to exercise and keep fit - Arthritis, Frozen Shoulder, Herniated Disc and Osteoporosis to name but a few. The secret is to learn how you can work around and even improve these conditions with the correct exercise.

Please ask me if you need any advice on specialist conditions.

My Stirling Marathon training is going well and I seem to have overcome my glute injury with the right stretches and treatment.

I was delighted yesterday that I managed to run 20 miles with training partners Lynne and Lisa (above) and am feeling a lot more confident about completing the race on the day.

I have a had a lot of people asking me to teach them to run lately and this is great as it's so easy just to get your shoes on and go once you know how to prepare and find your pace.

Call NOW for more information 07933 911522

11/4/17  Classes are off this week for the Easter break but resume again next Tuesday 18/4/17 for 11 weeks.

You can choose from Pilates, Freestyle Fitness Yoga and High Intensity Circuits and I still have spaces in most classes.

I had a busy but fun day in the studio yesterday doing a bespoke Pilates/Fitness Yoga class for client Samantha Rendall and her family - the beauty of this and the 121 sessions is that I can gear the session exactly to suit your needs and fitness goals.

Call NOW for more information or to book your class - see timetable 07933 911522

27/3/17  This is the last week of Pilates and Fitness classes this course - the last one is Circuits on Thursday at 7pm.

They return 18/4/17 for 11 weeks so please book as soon as possible to secure your place 07933 911522.

We've had a good session ths time with many new exercises especially for your neck and back stabilty taking precedence.

I look forward to introducing more of these exercses next term.

     bofa run

13/3/17  What a busy few weeks it's been for me dominated mainly by teaching and my training for the very first Stirling Scottish Marathon. I have.. developed piriformis syndrome which is a malfunction of the important piriformis muscle situated deep underneath the backside which is pressing on my Sciatic nerve causing I am going to take a week off running - interesting that this only irritates on the flat and thankfully not on the hills so I can run Dumyat ok!

I also think I've been running a bit fast for me at this stage with the Run 4 It shop in Bridge of Allan so if I am going to continue the training after next week I'm going to have to do it alone and more slowly...will keep you posted!

Classes are all very busy and the one which has become very popular recently is the Sunday morning Fitness Yoga and Pilates at 10am. This is a lovely blend of the best and most functional moves from Yoga and Pilates and is a perfect vibe for a Sunday morning - still working strongly on our core muscles with some amazing stretching which I have found particularly beneficial after my long runs on a Saturday.

There are 3 weeks left of this course then classes will begin again on 17/4/17 for 11 weeks.

BOOK NOW to avoid disappointment 07933 911522

 Kate dumbbells

23/2/17  Pilates and Fitness Classes are back this week after the break and now run until 30/4/17.

It's great to see so many of you having fun during your fitness classes - pictured above is Kate Pritchard doing the Pilates Starfish with the 5k weights last night.

Kate has had problems with her flexibility and being a dentist this is great for her shoulders and posture.

This weekend I am on a course with physiotherapist and posture specialist Cameron Angus where we will be exploring the important Psoas muscles and looking at neck problems abd their causes and solutions.

I shall feed back next week!

13/2/17  Classes are off this week with the local school holiday but I am still here for 121 fitness and Pilates sessions.

A 121 is a great way to find out more about you and your fitness - we cover posture, reasons for it and find the best ways to correct it and solve aches and pains.

I also offer High Intensity Circuit training and running/power walking as part of the 121 sessions - it really is good to do a balance of power, aerobic, strength and stretching for all round fitness.

I'm still absorbing some of the information I learned on my Pilates for Orthopaedic Conditions course in Manchester - case studies to complete so I better get cracking.

I'm looking forward to part 2 of this course of classes which runs until the end of March. There are still spaces in many classes so give me a call to discuss 07933 911522.

 me and rach

6/2/17  Yesterday I was down in Manchester to reconnect with Fitness Pilates creator Rachel Holmes. She and functional fitness specialist Kelly Reed-Banks were running their Pilates for Orthopaedic Conditions course which covered in great depth, Hip and Knee replacements, Slipped Disc, Osteoporosis, Arthritis, Sciatica and what we should and shouldn't be doing in classes.

Give me a call if you would like me to create your personal Pilates and exercise programme 07933 911522

empty studio

29/1/17  It's actually lovely to see the studio empty today after a very busy start to the year! If you like a quieter class I still have spaces in Pilates on Tuesdays at 10.30am and 8.15pm.

These are both mixed ability classes and perfect for beginning your Pilates journey - give me a call to try your first class free.

I've got a bit of Pilates and anatomical learning/training over the next few weeks - next weekend I'm down in Manchester to reconnect with Fitness Pilates creator Rachel Holmes and physiology expert Kelly Reed Banks.

They are running a course 'Pilates for Orthopaedic Conditions' which will cover most back and joint problems and go into a bit more depth with the benefits of each exercise for the relevant conditions.

Then in February I'm back with local physiotherapist Cameron Angus learning more about the Psoas muscles and neck problems.

I'm looking forward to sharing this with you all - have a great week!

 Mens Jan 17

23/1/17 We're now in week 3 of fitness and Pilates classes but it's not too late to book or try.

The Men on Mats Pilates (above) is actually full but I have space in the mixed class On Mondays at 7pm.

This session in Pilates we're working on functional core and back strength so give me call if you'd like to try it.

I still have one half price space in Barre Fitness on Wednesdays 6pm and Pilates Tuesdays 8.15pm.

Look out for some freestyle Yoga stretches in most classes.

marathon blog

21/1/17  I had a good run out with the Run 4 It Bridge of Allan Stirling Marathon training group early today. The fog didn't lift at all but the mood was cheerful as we upped our pace a bit.

I can't believe it's only 17 weeks until this monumental fitness challenge!

So far I'm injury free and I'm convinced that both the Pilates and the High Intensity class on Thursday evenings help with this, provdidng much needed joint stability and muscle strength.

Call me now for help with your Marathon training 07933 911522

14/1/17  Gosh what a busy busy first week back at classes! I got the new session off to a great start with a physiology course last Saturday exploring many of the original Pilates moves with local physiotherapist and Pilates specialist Cameron Angus.

We focused on many of the side lying moves such as the Side Bend and discussed the importance of the Serratus muscle which stabilises the shoulder and upper spine.

There are still spaces in many classes so give me a call to discuss 07933 911522

9/1/17 Classes start back today and I'm feeling very excited about it! It's always good to have a break from your normal routine and come back buzzing with energy.

The classes are all Pilates based, so if it's core strength and flexibility you're looking to work on Stirling Fitness is for you.

 2016-08-27 10.46.21

4/1/17  Today is my final day on the beautiful sunny island of Fuerteventura and I'm boarding the plane homeward bound for Scotland later on.

I have done lots of planning and learning for my next course of Fitness and Pilates classes, discovering some great new moves and stretches for my Pilates and Fitness Yoga class on Sunday mornings. I have been 'jete-ing' and 'arabesquing' around my room as I practice a new routine for the ballet Barre class starting next Wednesday at 6pm.

This is a great time savvy way to cram all of the elements of Yoga, Pilates and Ballet into a 45 minute totally relaxing session - there are only 8 spaces available in this unique and exclusive class.

I'm looking forward to working with some new 121 fitness clients this week - this is the most popular time for Fatburning and weight loss and I can help with that with some running or cardiovascular exercise.

On Saturday I'm looking forward to working with local physio Cameron Angus where we will be exploring some of the original Joseph Pilates moves and seeing how we can make them more effective and functional.

Don't forget to sign up for our newlsetter - just ping me your email and I'll add you.

Fuerte 17

1/1/17   Happy New Year! I'm in Fuerteventura planning the Stirling Fitness programme for 2017. I find here I can relax and focus on the busy session ahead and it's a great place to catch up on my learning and find the energy required to motivate and get the best results with my fitness clients.

I think the key to being successful with your fitness programme in this busy world is to be organised.

You have to decide do you really want to get fit and are you taking your health seriously or is it just a pipe dream or something you feel you should do?

I have to be honest I can't believe how many people I see who around me who haven't clicked that if you don't keep fit in middle age you probably never will.

I can't believe that they don't seem to realise that keeping fit is the key to a long and healthy life - you will look younger, have more energy and develop less disease.

You will suffer less pain especially if you look after your posture - if you don't back and joint problems will develop.

Pilates is a great way to both combat this and relax.

Call me now for help with your fitness plan for 2017, I will be delighted to help 07933 911522

 2016-08-08 05.49.00

16/12/16  This is the last week of fitness classes for 2016 so thank you to all of you who have taken part in my fitness and Pilates classes. I have enjoyed every minute of teaching this year, and feel very priviliged to work with such friendly and enthusiastic clients.

I have seen some great results, including with Samantha Rendall (above dressed as an Elf!) who came to me in June with some quite serious joint and postural problems and has seen a great improvement in her fitness, pain levels and weight .

Samantha is a wonderful member to have in the studio with her positive attitude, great humour yet competitive edge which brings her on.

I am greatly looking forward to 2017 at Stirling Fitness, with more learning and education planned, and I'm looking to develop further my Barre Fitness class which started earlier this year.

I am expecting the popularity of Barre to explode in the next couple of years as it incorporates the best from ballet, Pilates and Fitness Yoga.

Classes are Wednesdays 6pm - new 5 week course 11/1/17-8/2/17 £50

29/11/16  I can't believe there are only 2 more weeks left of this fitness course! The classes are still busy and it's great to see people making the effort to come out despite the darkness and busy-ness that dominates at this time of year.

I'm really excited about some of the new tweaks to exercises that I've picked up from Fitness Pilates founder Rachel Holmes and her side kick Kelly Reid Banks on their new teacher's educational forum.

I've also booked on to their 'Pilates for Orthopaedic Conditions' course in Manchester in February which I'm really looking forward to.

It's always good to get the latest research on common conditions and their causes and solutions, such as Sciatica, Plantar Fasciitis, back, shoulder, knee and hip problems.

I have never been so convinced that Pilates really is the way forward to prevent postural problems and injury.

The classes should be a bit quieter during the next couple of weeks so come and try your first class free - 07933 911522.

Also if you book your January fitness course before 16/12/16 you get one class FREE!!

          2016-07-13 07.03.51

22/11/16  It's really important in winter to keep your fitness going as weather, lack of daylight and illness often interupt the best of fitness routines.

Getting outside when you can is good and last weekend I had a stamina double, climbing Ben Vorlich in the snow on Saturday and completing the very hilly Glentress Half Marathon on Sunday.

This is all part of my training for the Stirling Scottish Marathon next May and I feel at this stage that time running off road on my legs is good preparation.

There are still 4 weeks of fitness classes - the last one is 18/12/16. Read more here

     Java 1

14/11/16  I'm delighted we are now selling the Miss Captain range of French workout gear here in the studio - you will see it on display this week.

The colours and quality are amazing - what more do you need to get you motivated with your fitness?

8/11/16  We're just about mid course in fitness classes right now and I have seen a slight fall in attendance as the nights close in and the weather becomes colder.

It's really important not to let your fitness go at this time of year - you will actually have more energy after exercising and be less prone to weight gain, SAD and general stiffness.

The Sunday morning class has been particularly busy - a beautiful fusion of Pilates and Freestyle Fitness Yoga which really sets you up for the day, working on your flexibility, balance and core strength.

This Saturday I am attending a specialist Pelvic Floor workshop with a local Physiotherapist, so I'm looking forward to sharing this new information in the classes.

  men on mats

25/10/16  It was very busy in Men on Mats Pilates last night. I think more and more men are realising that functional Fitness Pilates is essential for their back health and posture and they don't have to do whale music or deep breathing to have a strong core and great flexibility.

I do have space in the mixed class on Mondays at 7pm which is the ideal beginners Pilates class. Call NOW 07933 911522.

2016-10-18 19.55.03

20/10/16 It's back to classes this week - this is Emma doing her version of the original Joseph Pilates 'Rolling like a ball'.

This is great for flexibility in the spine and stomach muscles, and in Emma's case flexibility.

We still have spaces in Pilates Tuesday 8.15pm, Wednesday 7pm and Thursday 10.30am - try your first class FREE!

2016-05-27 13.53.28

11/10/16 Classes are off this week as I take some time to plan for the new courses starting 17/10/16.

Pilates still remains at the core of all of my classes and I am looking forward to a couple of educational courses in the near future - one about the pelvis, pelvic floor and all the connections around it, and one about the important but little known Psoas or hip flexor muscles which can cause problems if not functioning properly.

I love teaching Fitness Pilates as it really is the most functional form of Pilates - it is faster moving than some of the other interpretations of the original Pilates exercises and we don't use the deep breathing.

Pictured above is former international netball player Samantha Rendall whose physio has recently told her that her historic injury problems have improved drastically after coming to my classes for 3 months.

Call NOW if you would like more information about Pilates classes 07933 911522

 2016-05-01 05.54.18

4/10/16  Today is World Ballet Day! What a celebration of this exercise/art form.

I am delighted to announce my second course of Barre Fitness based ballet classes starts 19/10/16 for 6 weeks

This is a 45 minute class and we do a mix of ballet/function barre work, dance/cardio/fatburning and floor/core/stretching.

  Jane power bag

30/9/16  We've had a good week here at Stirling Fitness. Here is client Jane Robertson trying her Pilates Seated Roll-Down with a Power Bag for the first time. This is a bag of sand which moves as you move so they really challenge the core and can be used in many functional fitness classes.

All class courses come to a close this week with the new courses starting on Monday 17/10/16.

Read our newsletter here for more information

25/9/16  We've been having some fun in Unite Freestyle Fitness Yoga and Pilates lately as I've added in a short cardiovascular or 'Happy Hearts' section which gets you really warmed up for some of the deep stretching and Pilates moves ahead.

This Sunday morning class is excellent for focusing the mind, deep stretching of the hips, legs and shoulders and generally getting that 'feel good' vibe for the rest of your Sunday. We do build up a sweat however, and as usual challenge our core with some of the Plank variations.

The next course runs for 7 weeks 30/10/16 - 11/12/16. BOOK NOW to try 07933 911522

There are 2 weeks left of all other classe and I am now taking bookings for the course running 17/10/16 - 15/12/16.

Pilates goes from strength to strength as we work on building a balanced and flexible body - remember I teach Fitness Pilates which is functional for everyday life - no deep breathing or whale music just functional movement which will give you a core of steel and great flexibilty.

16/9/16  Classes are now completely full for the next 3 weeks but you can book now for the next block running for 9 weeks 17/10/16 - 15/12/16. Book early to avoid disappointment 07933 911522

 2016-05-01 12.52.55

9/9/16  This week saw the introduction of Barre classes to Stirling Fitness and I have to say I was very excited about teaching a new style of class.

It seemed to go down well with the Wednesday class preferring the freestyle dance moves and the Thursday class preferring the barre work.

So I'm going to devise a class that works for everyone which will be on a Wednesday at 6pm. I have 7 signed up with another 3 'try it' spaces - call now to book your slot 07933 911522.

Pilates classes are full however there was some spaces in a quiet Wednesday evening class.

I am looking forward to updating with the Fitness Pilates Orthopaedic workshop later this year.

2/9/16  Another busy week here at Stirling Fitness with most clients back from their holidays and raring to go with their fitness. Circuits or HIIT was particularly busy this week but only one male in the class! We need some more men in this class - it's great for power, stamina and core strength.

2016-04-30 13.41.57

I'm very excited to be teaching my Barre trial classes next week. Wednesday at 6pm is full but there are a couple of spaces Thursday 8/9 11.45am and Monday 12/9 6pm.

This is a ballet based class with tinkly piano music and exercises both on and off the barre - there is a mini aerobic/ballet workout in the middle.

Book NOW 07933 911522

2016-08-09 19.17.21

15/8/16  Classes have got off to a good start over the last 2 weeks and we have seen many new faces as clients make the most of the Crash Course - the busiest classes have been Circuits/HIIT on Thursdays and Fitness Yoga/Pilates on Sundays.

I was nominated for the Facebook 22 Press-up challenge in 22 days to raise awareness of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder so have been incorporating this into classes when I can and have been posting the videos on Facebook and Twitter!

Press-ups are great for core strength and shoulders and backs, so long as you are doing them correctly with level hips and the stomach drawn in. They can be done kneeling if you are not quite ready for the full one!

I am now getting prepared for my new Barre Fitness classes starting in 3 weeks - look out for more information on the site, social media and local press or give me a call 07933 911522

5/8/16  Whoosh! What a very busy first week back at classes and it's good to be back in the routine. It was great to catch up with everyone after holidays etc and  see that many of you, although not particularly practising Pilates have maintained a lot of your previous strength.

The busiest class of the week was Circuits or High Intensity last night - it was pretty muggy outside so the doors were open and much water was consumed!

There are many of you doing the 3 week Crash Course so I am expecting Sunday's Fitness Yoga/Pilates to be very busy too.

There are still a couple of spaces in Men on Mats or advanced Pilates on Tuesday at 7pm - so give me a call if you are looking to improve your core strength, power and flexibility 07933 911522

 Great Run Andy

28/7/16  I was at Stirling University Innovation Park today attending their Sports Networking event with Sporting Chance. I was delighted to meet Andy Mitchelmore from Stirling Scottish Marathon organisers The Great Run Company and learn more about the route and the organisation.

This week has been extremely busy as I finalise numbers for my new Pilates and fitness courses starting next week - the Crash Course starts on Monday for 3 weeks so if you need a quick boost to your fitness you can book 3 classes per week for 3 weeks and it works out at £5 each.

Also my Barre Fitness trial classes are filling up - I have now put an extra one on Thursday 8/9/16 11.45am so call asap if you want to do it.

My running is going well and my focus and motivation has strengthened since  my entry to the Stirling Scottish Marathon next year. I am also running more with clients - many of them with this is mind so that is good.

Look out for 'Member of the Month' - it is me!- and you can hear how I have kept going with my fitness for most of my adult life.

 2016-07-22 09.06.04

26/7/16  Well it's back to work today after my holiday in Lanzarote and Newcastle. This was my run route right along the sea front in Puerto del Carmen - a great walkway which went on for miles and took me right past the airport in Arrecife.

I managed to get up and out running early most morings, avoiding the heat and the crowds of sunbathers later in the day.

I was however amazed at the numbers of people out running that early in the day on holiday with many swimming in the sea too.

This week I'm preparing for the new courses of fitness classes which start next week in between 121 clients - choose from Pilates, Fitness Yoga, Circuits and the new Barre Fitness classes which start in September.

 Ingram Triasha and I

18/7/16 Yesterday I completed the Ingram Half Marathon Fell Race in Northumberland with my friend and running partner in Newcastle Tricia Best. This covered 13 miles in the Cheviot Hills and 2400ft of climb so I was a bit apprehensive about my time. We didn't plan to run together as Tricia is much faster on the flat roads than I am but my experience in the hills and on rough undergrowth meant we were pretty much running at the same speed so we stuck together and finished just under the 3 hours!

It really helps to have company exercising which is why my clients come to me for help with their fitness and it's only 2 weeks until small group classes start back 1/8/16. So if you fancy trying a class give me a call or email me in the next couple of weeks.

You can choose from Pilates, Fitness Yoga, Circuits or High Intensity Training and an intensive 3 week course starting 1/8/16.

7/7/16  I'm back to work this week after a few days spent in Newcastle and I've been inundated with new 121 fitness clients which is great.

This week Beverley has been on an intense fitness programme on her weeks holiday from work so we've been training every day at 10am. So far the weather has been dry so we've been able to get outside - power walking/jogging followed by some strength, core and toning work in the studio.

Adherence really is key to remaining lifelong fitness - we all have challenges/curve balls thrown in our path but it's getting back on the treadmill of fitness which is key.

I'm also working on the next course of fitness classes starting in August - the Barre Fitness 'try it' class is full and many of the Pilates classes are filling up.

Give me a call to book your place 07933 911522

 Claire and me

27/6/16 What a busy weekend! Completed my second Tough Mudder near Dumfries on Saturday and 2 new PT clients yesterday. I'm a little stiff today - managed to slide off a high log and land on my back, but am sure my Pilates helped me not to get injured with a strong core!

Here I am pictured with Stirling Fitness client Claire Hall who is responsible for getting me into this mess!

The last Pilates class of the course is tomorrow at 8.15pm - remember if you book your next course before this Wednesday 29/6 you get one FREE!

25/6/16 Whew what a busy week - the last full one of classes before the break in July. Today I'm heading down to Dumfries to take part in Tough Mudder Scotland for the second's already raining so think it's a given we'll be soaked! Look out for coverage on Twitter and Facebook today!

This is our latest newsletter - remember book your next course of classes before Tuesday 28/6 and get one FREE!

16/6/16  Most class courses come to a close next week with the exception of Pilates - Monday 10am and Tuesdays 7pm and 8.15pm which run on 27/6/16 and 28/6/16 respectively.

There are no classes in July however we are open for 1-2-1 fitness training for most of it. This is a great opportunity to get your own bespoke fitness session, whether it is fatburning/weight loss or a postural assessment with Pilates.

We can tailor the exercises exactly to meet your fitness goals.

stirling marathon

26/5/16  We are very excited this week about the announcement that Stirling is to have it's very own Marathon next year on Sunday May 21 2017.

I myself have entered - I always promised my self I would do one so this is year to train and I will need to draw on every ounce of running experience and self-discipline I have.

I think this is great for Stirling - so central in Scotland it should draw people to the city and inspire especially local people to attempt a challenge they never thought they could.

I already have some other Marathon virgins to train with and think this will be great for Stirling Fitness too.

Provided you have no major joint problems and are injury free anyone can train for this - just put one foot infront of the other - a lot!!

If you are interested in joining our distance running group give me a call 07933 911522

22/5/16   The studio is very busy with Fitness 1-2-1s right now - the good weather always brings people out wanting to get fit for their holidays and for summer.

If the weather is good we usually head off power walking/running around the Kings Park, followed by some strength and toning in the studio. If the weather is bad we stay in and do some fatburning circuits which is a bit like Metafit.

On a personal level I'm upping my training to compete with my team in my second Tough Mudder in June - I've ran Dumyat a couple of times but need to increase my distance.

4/5/16  I am still very much buzzing after my wonderful Barre Fitness course with dancer and fitpro Jay Banks in Glasgow at the weekend.

Jay is a trained dancer and in fact International Personal Trainer of the year 2016, so we were honoured to have him delivering us teachers this relatively new fitness concept that has really taken off in the US and the South of England.

Barre Fitness is a fusion of ballet, yoga and pilates and is fun, hard work (there is a cardio/fatburning section) and a great focus for your fitness.

I will be launching clases in September 2016 - please let me know if you are interested in the first trial class.

07933 911522

22/4/16   Classes are off to a busy start this week - I always love coming back after a break - there's no stopping my energy and motivation. It's been great to implement some new exercises - we've been practising Dr Cody Sipe's correct way to do a Plank and experimenting with some ballet takes on Pilates from Kelly Reed-Banks.

Most Pilates classes are full, but I do have space on Thursday mornings at 10.30am, and in the Fitness Yoga/Pilates on Sundays at 10am.

Next week sees my Barre Fusion course in Glasgow - so look out for some great balance and flexibility exercises.

12/4/16  I'm very lucky to be out in Fuerteventura this week planning my classes and fitness sessions for the summer months ahead. This is a photo I took from the plane of my 8 mile route along the coastline at Caleta del Fuste - very windy but spectacular by the sea!

Pilates and fitness classes start next week 18/4/16. I'm so glad I discovered Fitness Pilates, as it really is respected by physios and health professionals asthe best  remedial functional exercise for back health and other postural problems.

I've also been studying to qualify as a Functional Aging Specialist so I can look after you at any age and get you fit!

Cody and me

8/4/16   Yesterday I travelled to London to meet Dr Cody Sipe from the Functional Aging Institute of America. He was in town for the Fitpro Live exhibition where he is promoting his groundbreaking educational programmes for fitness instructors.

His knowledge around the booming aging population worldwide is second to none, and along with business partner Dr Dan Ritchie they have conducted their own research on how to age in the most functional and fittest possible way.

Look out for some of these new ideas coming into Pilates and fitness sessions next term!

SAM 3167

2/4/16 We had a very busy last week of Fitness and Pilates classes this week with a few newbies trying out classes for the first time. It's always good to get fresh feedback about how my Pilates classes compare with others in the area - there are no right or wrong types of Pilates - they are all just someone's interpretation of the original 34 Mat exercises.

Fitness Pilates is probably the most dynamic - it's constantly evolving with the latest physiological and functional research and we don't focus on the deep breathing but strength and flexibility.

I find when clients come and they have been focusing a lot on deep breathing, their core isn't very strong.

Remember you do not need to deep breathe to have strong core muscles!

New classes start 18/4/16 for 10 weeks but I am around for some 1-2-1 fitness before then.

26/3/16  Class courses come to a close next week - they are off for 2 weeks and begin again for 10 weeks from Monday 18/4/16.

I am doing some interesting training over the break - heading down to London to train with the Functional Aging Institute of America, teaching and training in Fuerteventura, and qualifying with industry leader Jayne Nicholls to teach Barre Fusion - a huge new fitness concept from the US. Barre Fusion is a combination of standing ballet, Pilates and Yoga moves which are all great for the core, balance, flexibility and strength - look out for your class coming soon to Stirling.

21/3/16. Happy Spring! This is the easiest season to keep fit with lighter, longer days and hopefully better weather.

I've been particularly busy with new 1-2-1 clients looking to lose weight and tone up for Summer.

Pictured above is Alison Thomson doing the reverse Leg Pull in Pilates.

8/3/16  Happy International Women's Day! Here is my longest running Pilates class (9 years) celebrating today. Many of these ladies are classed as 'seniors' but can out-plank anyone!

Well done ladies - here's to our health and fitness as women of 2016!

29/2/16  We are midway throught he current course of Pilates and fitness classes but you can still join a class for the remaining 5 weeks.

My senior ladies continue to amaze me with their strength and suppleness and I have just booked a course in London next month with Cody Sipe, vice president of the Functional Aging Institute in the US to discover the latest findings on functional fitness during the aging process - very excited!

16/2/16  We are delighted to announce the winner of our 6 week Fatloss/Healthy Eating Club is Mairi Taggart! Mairi lost 5 inches from her tummy during the 6 week course by taking on board all of the nutritional advice she was given by our expert Ryan Bennett, and by exercising at lest 3 times a week.

Mairi is an inspiration - working Mum of 2 little girls - who had a partcularly tough year last year. She has pulled herself back and is now running for the first time in a long while and planning 2 do a 10k this year.

Well done Mairi!

12/2/16  Whooosh! What a busy start to the year it's been. Pictured above are my Healthy Eating/Fat Loss Club on week 5/6 last Saturday. We were lucky enough to have Tricia Best from Newcastle speaking about Addiction and Adherence, and the group found her highly motivational as she told us her own journey of how she gave up a 30 year smoking habit and began running at the age of 47!

I think my 121 clients have been slower at coming forward this year probably due to the heavy rain - but I suddenly had a lot of interest last week on our unsually sunny day in Stirling.

The second Circuits class on a Monday eveing at 8.10pm is almost full - this started as beginners HIIT or High Intensity but they are already gettting a lot fitter and I'm making the class harder every week.

I've been doing a little idea swapping with army PTI Mark Doyle and he's given me some great ideas for fatburning and power/strength.

25/1/16  Classes are in full swing now and very busy but there are still a few spaces. It's great to get back to Pilates with the regulars saying many of their aches and pains had returned over the Xmas break with lack of practice.

It's always much easier to get back into it when you have done it before.

I was asked to teach a class at Stirling University last week and said 'yes' - it was refreshing to teach in a different environment and new faces - I think they enjoyed it!

16/1/16  What a great first week back we've had at Stirling Fitness - classes are almost full and today we had our second session at the Fat Loss/Healthy Eating Club.

We had ex international swimmer Ryan Bennett talking about nutrtion and giving us some gems to help us eat more healthily and stick to it.

A power walk around a very snowy and pretty Kings Park followed.

Tomorrow (Sunday) it's Freestyle Fitness Yoga and Pilates - there are still a couple of spaces 07933 911522

Fat loss club

9/1/16  A great start to the Fat Loss club yesterday. After a session on Mindfulness and taking measurements we went out for a Power Walk - around 2 miles. Everyone felt great and motivated.

We finished with some Pilates abdominal exercises.

Next week we have swimmer Ryan Bennett speaking about Nutrition.

5/1/16  Wonderful morning teaching Pilates in the sunshine of Fuerteventura. I was teaching at the Sheraton Hotel - I could get used to this although I have to say at 23c I was boiling.

It's the first time I've taught Pilates where nobody spoke English - it's amazing what you can teach visually - they were all quite fit.

They've asked me to come back and teach so I'm delighted.

Back to reality though and classes start in the Stirling studio on Monday - book as soon as possible they're filling up 07933 911522

3/1/16   Happy New Year from Fuerteventura where I am planning Pilates and fitness classes for the next session.

It is great to be in the sunshine and fresh air - ideas flow and I have peace and quiet to focus on my learning and choreography.

Did you make any New Year's resolutions? Mine is to be more disciplined - funnily enough not with exercise as I love it but on the things I don't like doing...

Discipline is key to health and fitness though - so if you don't like it come and try a class or personal session - I will make it fun and interesting for you.

Classes start 11/1/16 and our Fat Loss/Slimming club starts next Saturday 9/1/16.

29/12/15  I hope you had a lovely and restful Christmas. I did but being a committed exerciser I have been running and practising some of the key Pilates moves.

It's really important to look after your back over the Christmas period - it will stiffen up if you don't mobilise and stretch...

Look out for some simple mobility exercises coming soon!

I have one slot free tomorrow (Weds 30/12) at 4pm if you would like a 121 fitness or Pilates session.

23/12/15   A very Merry Christmas to all of our clients and followers. We still have a couple of slots for 1-2-1 fitness training tomorrow (Xmas Eve) and on Wednesday 30/12/15.

So if you are fit don't let it's really not worth it for one day of the year.

I am challenging myself this holiday by running every other day whatever the weather...just about to go out in a storm! Elainexx

16/12/15   Classes are coming to a close this week until 9/1/15. This is my Men on Mats Pilates class working out to Coldplay. See more on our Facebook page Men on Mats

12/12/15  Our Fat Loss/Healthy Eating Club starts on Saturday 9/1/16.

This is a first for Stirling Fitness and will run over a 6 week period, our aim to drop a dress size and change unhealthy lifestyle habits forever.

The sessions will include a 'Measure-in', Motivation and Education and a half hour Exercise Session.

BOOK NOW to avoid disappointment - 10 spaces only 07933 911522

7/12/15  There are 2 weeks left of fitness and Pilates classes here at Stirling Fitness. It's tough keeping up your fitness in the winter months with the darkness and distractions of Christmas but if you just do 20 minutes twice a week this will lift your mood and give you the energy to cope with the season's demands.

30/11/15   The rain has stopped here in Stirling so took 121 client Louise out for a run around Cambusbarron.

She did very well running up this hill!

24/11/15   Last week's fitness classes ended on a hot and sweaty fun note in Circuits with Kenny feeling the heat during Side Plank!

19/11/15  The week definitely started on a sombre note after the horrific events in Paris. We respected the minute's silence after the class on Monday and class members were mainly wanting to talk about what had happened.

Stress and negativity can definitely affect your fitness - we are all dealing with our own problems and tragedies at home too and it's just recognsing when this happens and getting back on the fitness treadmill as soon as you can even just for 5 minutes.

Fitness can help hugely with our ability to deal with stress and disappointment - our body releases endorphins when we exercise which make us feel better - try it!

14/11/15   Fascinated and so proud of some of my more senior Pilates ladies this week. Some of them have been coming to classes for 7-8 years and can out-Plank anyone! This is Marjory Ekin 70+

7/11/15  Busy busy times and I'm already planning the Stirling Fitness programme for 2016. Read this week's news here

29/10/15  Everyone is really settling back into classes this week with many clients having signed up for 2 or more classes this term. Pictured is Sarah Anderson who started her campaign of fitness earlier this year having done no exercise for a long time - she is now coming to 2 Pilates classes and one High Intenstiy Training class and has had some amazing results.

Here she is doing the Advanced Spinal Rotation - great for mid/lower back mobility.

24/10/15   Wow what a busy first week back with classes! Mondays are overflowing right now following the traditional trend with fitness that resolve is usually stronger at the beginning of the week.

I've also taken on 2 new Personal Training clients - both whose goals are to get fit and lose weight in the 10 weeks until Christmas. Why wait until after?

              Ryan Bennett

16/10/15   Today I met with Scotland international swimmer Ryan Bennett. Ryan is a qualified Sports and Remedial massage therapist and has a BSc in Sports and Exercise science. We had an interesting discussion around massage, injuires and how to prevent them.

Read about it here on my newsletter Stirling Fitness News

12/10/15   This week I'm in Newcastle planning my next course of Pilates and fitness classes starting next week.

The emphasis this session is on functional fitness and body weight training, but I'm also revisiting some of my ideas using the balance balls and resistance bands.

3/10/15    A busy busy week of fitness as members try to fit in their last classes before the October break (9/10-19/10/15). I continue to be amazed by many of my senior Pilates ladies who have been coming to classes for a while and are performing Planks and Seated Roll-Downs like a walk in the park.

I am moving forward with the purchase of my Kick Start Fat Loss franchise - just waiting for a few tweaks to be made to accomodate Scottish law.

On a perosnal level I am very much enjoying my running right now - we even had a blast round the block on Circuits on Thursday night which was great fun.

You need to rebook you classes asap for the next course 07933 911522.

19/9/15   I'm very excited to be heading to Glasgow today to reconnect with fitness leader Rachel Holmes and learn more about her Kick Start Fat Loss franchises.

If this is something you're interested in give me a call 07933 911522

      Ante Post Natal

14/9/15    I am delighted to announce that I am now officially qualified to teach Ante and Post Natal fitness. This is an area many fitness instructors stay away from, but I am keen to share my own experiences of keeping fit during pregnancy with you.

Pilates is especially beneficial during pregnancy - the maintenance of a strong stomach and back will help you during labour and help you recover more quickly afterwards.

Give me a call for more information.

12/9/15   A very busy week here at Stirling Fitness with 2 new 1-2-1 clients wanting to lose weight and tone up. The best way is to do this gradually with a mix of aerobic, high intensity and Pilates training.

If you're not sure if Pilates is for you give it a try - no obligation to sign up 07933 911522

5/9/15 Evening classes were much quieter this week - not sure if it was the sudden drop in temperature and darker evenings or the headcold that seems to be going around in Stirling at the moment...

We still managed to have fun in Men's Pilates on Tuesday - Ken had his 'go faster' ankle weights on but how much work he did I'm not sure!

Ken weights

There are still spaces in this class aimed at improving male posture and strength so give me a call if you'd like to try it 07933 911522.

29/8/15  A great day out at the Scottish Fitness and Nutrition Exhibition at Glasgow's SECC. Particularly enjoyed self-defence demo from Krav Maga and Nicky Seghal's presentation from NPE.

27/8/15  Apologies it's been a while but I've been so busy with the new course of classes! Post Summer can often be as busy in the fitness industry as January as many of us have over-indulged in the sun and maybe seen unflattering photos of ourselves in our swimming gear...

So Pilates classes are pretty full and I've started back on Sunday mornings with Unite Freestyle Fitness Yoga and Pilates - this is really energising - great stretching, balance, core and strength.

We've been experimenting on Thursdays with KICK - which is a Karate based boxing workout - phew and I've been doing my daily live workouts on Periscope (a branch of Twitter) with Fitness Pilates creator Rachel Holmes.

21/7/15     This is the Fitness Pilates Side Plank. It is based on the original straight arm Side Bend from the original 34 mat exercises and is great for the core and posture.

Classes start back on Monday 3/8/15 - you can book NOW to try your first session FREE!  07933 911522

20/7/15     Finished the Coastal Run exhausted but proud that we had covered 14 miles of running over tough terrain!

 Alnwick run

19/7/15    Today is my last challenge of the Summer before fitness classes start in 2 weeks. I am taking part in the Northumberland Coastal Run which is 14 miles of beach and trail from Beadnell to Alnmouth. At the moment it is raining but it's due to clear up by the time we start!

I am running with my childhood friend Tricia who kicked a 30 year smoking habit and started exercising 12 months ago. Think I will run the first half with her then see if I can do a mad blast towards the end! Will let you know how I go...

    KBC Fitpro

10/7/15     After enjoying a nice break from classes and teaching I'm now revving up for new courses starting in August. This week I attended the Fitpro event in London which is one of the biggest fitness conferences in the world.

My head is buzzing from so much new information and ideas and I attended sessions from some of the top presenters in the world. Look out for new exercises in August!

27/6/15  We had a good fun evening at Jam Jar in Bridge of Allan on Thursday for our Summer night out.

Classes are off now for 5 weeks until 3/8/15 but Personal Training is available during July.

21/6/15  Great day out at Tough Mudder Scotland in Dumfries today. If you want a mental and physical challenge this is the event for you!

14/6/15  Busy, busy times here at Stirling Fitness as everyone crams in sessions to get fit for Summer!

Here is a great back mobility exercise called 'Threading the Needle' - great for the upper spine and preventing round shouldered posture - relax your neck and knees hip width!

4/6/15  It's the Stirling Fitness News

26/5/15   Classes are all going well and very full. I've seen a particular surge in numbers in my evening Pilates classes with probably only a couple of spaces left in each.

We've been experimenting with the small Pilates balls between the ankles in front-lying to fire up the glutes and leg muscles which can often be the cause of lower back problems and pelvic imbalance.

Looking forward to a busy Men on Mats tonight where we have been using the 1k ankle weights during exercises - these really make a difference to abdominal/core challenge.

13/5/15   Busy busy time with many of you wanting to get fit for Summer - there is still time!

I've been cracking on with my Tough Mudder training - slight knee niggle caused by overstretching and overworking in classes but thankfully not a running injury so I'm keeping going, just avoiding those stretches for me.

I managed to lift the black 4 kilo weights in Pilates classes so well pleased!

Tough Mudder

6/5/15   We've been experimenting this week with the mini balls in Pilates. They are fantastic for strengthening the Quadratus Lumborum muscles which stabilise the back.

23/4/15  Classes got off to a great start this week and it's good to see everyone wanting to get so fit for Summer!

14/4/15   Good morning from Fuerteventura where I am planning your fitness and Pilates classes for Summer session! And doing some Tough Mudder training too....

3/4/15    Happy Easter everyone! Classes are now off for 2 weeks and will resume for 10 weeks from 20/4/15. I'm spending some of my time training for Tough Mudder Scotland on 21/6/15 which started today with my ascent of the beginners climbing wall at The Peak in Stirling! I am around this week for 1-2-1 training and Pilates.

28/3/15  Some fantastic balance work in classes this week by Michelle and Sally. This is one of our Freestyle Fitness Yoga moves which is fantastic for ankle stability and stregth as well as the Core. Hip flexibilty and back stabilisers aslo tested to the max. Classes end this Thursday 2/4/15 - you must book before Easter if you want a place next course starting 20/4/15.

21/3/15   Exactly 3 months to go until Tough Mudder Scotland so decided to take the bull by the horns and run up Dumyat from Pendreich. Managed most of it but had to walk a couple of inclines! So lucky to live in such beautiful landscape here in Stirling!

12/3/15   Only 3 more weeks left of the current course of Fitness Classes! I can't believe how fast it's gone. I've seen some great results both with my 1-2-1 clients and classes. There's a great vibe in Circuits right now - this is aphoto of the class tonight - busy but fun!

SAM 2183

5/3/15     You never can tell how busy Circuits is going to be but it was mobbed last night! We still managed to work hard and have fun. Thursdays 7pm.

19/2/15  Great to see the '3 Geminis' back in Pilates this morning. Pictured (L-R) are Ann Gray, Margaret McCann and Christine Paterson. All have been coming to Pilates 5 years+, work extremely hard and when together never stop talking!

15/2/15  Well we're 6 weeks into 2015 and all classes are crammed! So good to see people so enthusiastic and passionate about getting fit. Some great results with 121 sessions - almost time to take measurements with the New Year New You candidates!

26/1/15  An interesting weekend planning fitness events for the year! I have entered Tough Mudder Scotland 2015 and might be looking for Stirling Fitness team members?!

22/1/15   Love teaching fitness at this time of year - everyone is so keen and motivated wanting to reach their goals in 2015. Most classes completely full but still have space Pilates Monday 7pm and Thursday 10.30am Circuits Thursday 7pm and Freestyle Fitness Yoga Sunday 10am!

14/1/15    Classes have got off to a great start this week - everyone looking very keen to get back into their fitness as soon as possible. My new Men on Mats class went particularly well on Monday at 7pm. A few new starts and a few from the overflowing Tuesday class - quite a few lower back problems that will hopefully ease as core muscles are strengthened.

Still a couple of spaces in Unite Freestyle Fitness Yoga and Pilates on Sunday at 10am - a lovely time to exercise.

SAM 1834

4/1/15    Happy New Year from Fuerteventura, Spain where I am planning and preparing your fitness and Pilates classes for 2015. Can't believe I haven't had time until now to look in detail at some of my teaching material from the many courses and workshops I went on last year. Some of this information is ground-breaking with regard to backs and pelvic floor, posture and flexibility.

11/12/14   Pictured above is long-time Pilates class member Marj Ekin doing an amazing side plank at the age of 64+! Side Plank on the elbow has been adapted from the original straight arm Pilates Side Bend and is fantastic for the shoulders, core muscles and balance. It can be modified to suit beginners.

2/12/14  Speaking this morning at the Coffee and Commerce networking group in Stirling about the benefits of Fitness Pilates. Always fascinated how few people realise Pilates was a man and that this amazing exercise programme does not have to involve deep breathing or whale music!

Just about to teach my busiest class os the week - Men on Mats. Possibly a new class starting on a Monday evening in January - let me know if you'd be interested.

18/11/14  Cracking on with my Pre and Post Natal Pilates and Fitness Qualification. There has never been such an important time to look after your fitness - especially core muscles and pelvic floor. Ideally you should be fit before you conceive and maintain this throughout pregnancy. Did you know your Pelvic Floor is shaped in a figure of 8?

11/11/14   Had a great energising Unite class yesterday. Love some of the slower Freestyle Fitness Yoga sections - great for hip and back mobility/flexibility. Really sets you up for the day - there are still 2 spaces left in this and 4 weeks left of the course so give us a call if you want to try it 07933 911522.

Rachel and kelly KSXtreme Edinburgh

Yesterday (25/10/14) I was in Edinburgh meeting up with my lovely mentors and trainers Kelly Reed-Banks and Rachel Holmes. It was blood sweat and tears as we worked out for 4 hours doing a mix of Circuits, Aerobics and Pilates in KSXtreme. The 10 second breaks in Circuits or 'Metafit' workouts have now been replaced with strength work.

Kelly says 'Fatburning is more efficient when we keep exercise going rather than stop for a rest' - phew.

Try this class on Thursdays at 7pm. Kelly also gave us lots of low impact moves so you don't have to jump or run in this class.
